GideonTech: Top Ten Worst Portrayals of Technology in a film
I’m not very happy with this list. Notably absent: The Net and Enemy of the State. Also, to this day I am envious of Boris’ ability to type with one hand.

Hungry Boris full!!!!
Taco Bell commercial references aside, I agree with your assessment. *Enemy of the State* should be on there. Man, that movie sucked. *War Game*, however, is a classic beyond belief. Ferris Bueller takes the day off to save the world with some Hollywood Squares and Tic-Tac-Dough. Shadow Stevens and Jim J. Bullock ‘n’ shit. Not to mention some Wink Martindale action. Damn.
Man, I think there is a lot to criticize about Jurassic Park, and choosing this point:
While trapped in the control room, Alexis, the grand-daughter of the park’s owner, sits down at a computer terminal. Like magic, she exclaims “This is UNIX, I know this!”. Where on this planet is there a 10 year old girl who knows and can understand UNIX?!?
seems quite sexist indeed. They don’t question that ANY ten year old might know UNIX, but ten year old *girls* in particular. Booooooooooo!
In terms of base rates the assessment is quite accurate, though. That is, the year Jurassic Park was made, out of a sample of 100 boys you’d find, say, 20 that understood basic UNIX, whereas out of a sample of 100 girls you’d find maybe 2.
All I’m saying is that it SHOULD be more surprising that a girl that age knows UNIX, considering how few of them there were. I’m apathetic about whether that’s sexist or not.
sources please!
My guess is that such data doesn’t exist, so you’ll just have to take my sagacious word for it.
