So I’ve complained about the Lancaster site to a lot of people, but its hard to tie it down to a particular example that really gets across how annoying this place is.
But maybe this will drive the point home: The instructional staff here has referenced Simpsons episodes in nearly every conversation I’ve had with any of them. That in itself isn’t horrible- it is exactly the reason I defend pop culture, after all. But what is horrible is that every one of these references begins with the question, “Do you watch The Simpsons?”
It makes me want to bash someone’s skull in.
Awwww… HTech misses you.
Plus, we’re way cooler than the lancaster kids. clearly.
So wait they set up the reference to make sure that it won’t be “lost” on you? Wow, of course my way of just blurting out references for the amusement of myself is rather solipsistic oh well . . . “you don’t win friends with salad!” I think they are just doing to as an ice-breaker. I remember that most conversations I was having with people back at SUHP was replete with Simpson references but we all just knew and it was 7 season ago so maybe it was more popular back then.
I dont know. The Simpsons are so much a part of Americana that I don’t think a reference has to be prefaced. I mean, I can understand, maybe, starting with “D’ya remember the episode where…” But I think a general understanding of the Simpsons universe can be assumed among your average 18-35 year old audience. I personally think it should be part of the prerequisites for citizenship, along with a working knowledge of the Constitution and such, but maybe that takes it a bit too far.
I don’t think making Simpsons trivia part of the driving exam is asking too much…
I think the academic pretense of TV being the “idiot box” has created sufficient stigma in such lofty institutions that such a preface might just be part of the rest of your life. Like “do you read . . ., have you heard . . ., etc” don’t forget most “smart people” will dismissively tell you “I do not watch television” it’s a real knuckle bitter since that makes them better.
Did you check out Brendees or the Dispencing Company? Also, if you want some real food, go to the Campus Deli, on Harrisburg Pike a block form campus, they make really good sandwiches (and huge).
p.s. So the LA site is pretty cool, but I really can’t stand the younger kids. They totally don’t listen to me at all and they burst out laughing like every 10 seconds.
haha i can’t stand people who have to create a basis on referencing the simpsons…
i know with all my friends…i don’t know maybe they know me too well…but i just quote…and just refer to ’em…and it’s rare that it goes over their head
