CTY Day 2

Ok, I’m back, and I’m blogging my heart out. To prove it, I made this entire post through my PDA. That’s right, shitty cell phone pics and everything. I am currently bound to my PDA, since my room here at Princeton does not currently have the internet. I feel like half a man.

I was planning on making this post yesterday, but T-Mobile wont allow a PDA to view on line photo albums, so I was stuck with no way to access the pics. And, since I had been up for about 50 hours at that point, I didn’t have the heart to make a half-assed pictureless post. But today is the day, my friend, today is the day. I just realized that I can beam a picture from my cell to my pda via infrared. I made this discovery today, and it is one of the most exciting discoveries I have made in my adult life.

So this is Princeton:www.http://fractionalactorssub.madeofrobots.com/blog/pics/prince.jpg

At least, its one of the buildings here. Lots of fancy architecture. Lots of stairs. Lots of other summer camps running around at the moment, including an small army of sports camp kids I have to share a dorm cafeteria with, and this fun little group:

This weekend is instructor orientation and training. Our students don’t arrive until Sunday afternoon, and I begin teaching on Monday. I’ve seen the room I’m teaching in, and it is rather impressive. Wood paneled walls, padded seats, the works. I didn’t take pictures (I hadn’t made my breakthrough discovery), and I can’t get back into the room until Monday, but I’ll show you soon enough. My TA Neal shares a lot of my interests, which means the students will be getting a summer’s worth of unshaven nerds talkin bout robots. Hopefully this goes over well.

Neal is the guy on the right. The guy in the foreground, and the one in the green shirt, are also TAs. Why am I hanging out with TAs, you ask? And, you add, that doesn’t look like Princeton! What’s going on here?!?! Well, after signing in on Thursday and eating dinner, I was looking for a group of people to go out for a drink. I found these guys. Where’d they take me? That’s right:

And then I came back here and unpacked my stuff, including all the junk food Harmony gave me.

Since I’ve never lived in a dorm myself, I should ask: is it ok to eat pudding cups that aren’t refrigerated?

Speaking of my dorm room, there’s one more thing that’s photo-worthy. The room itself is rather comfortable and air conditioned (thank god. The student’s dorm does not have air conditioning, and is pretty much unbearable, even at night). But look at the bed:

For comparison, that’s a 1 Liter bottle of water by the bed post. The bed literally has like 3 feet of clearance off the ground. I don’t know if that’s normal, but I know this much: that’s where monsters sleep, and more room just means bigger monsters.

  1. Good taste picking the 1 liter big mouth Aquafina. That’s my bottle of choice, nice an easy to measure your intake that way and easy to drink from, not too top heavy. So did you pull a 50 hour shift because you ended up catching “the head” in Windy City before you headed out to Jersey or what man?

  2. as long as they’re still in unopened containers, eating the pudding cups should be fine.

  3. Have you considered that monsters might make good graders? You ARE going to make these kids write reports and everything, right? Just set the nasties up with a red pen and a booklight and go out on the town. I mean to Linens and Things. Dork.

Also, don’t trust that man talking about innocuous pudding cups. Those are monster food if ever I saw it.

  4. Did you hear about the FBI report that surfaced recently? The report states that a young mexican man was seen on the wrong side of a yellow, CAUTION, DO NOT PASS tape line. A small group of protestors, protesting illegal immigration were reportedly outraged by the illegal alien’s smug attitude and lack of respect for U.S. laws. The young man barely escaped a violent encounter with the protestors (mostly women), when FBI officers on duty explained to the protestors that he was not an illegal alien, he was from Jersey!

  5. well, chuck…i’d like you to know, i had an air conditioned room myself…’cause i was a commuter

  6. Hi Chuck! i’m disappointed what you think of us… quote ‘unshaven nerds talkin bout robots’… tsk, tsk

  7. I was actually talking about me and Neal. We kept trying to one up each other in robo-speak. It was pretty pathetic, actually.

Of course, you guys were also unshaven nerds talkin bout robots, but that just further proves my point.

  8. how are we unshaven nerds? girls dont grow beards or moustaches and we outnumbered the amount of guys in class

  9. I conceed your point, Jackie.

There were both shaven and unshaven nerds at CTY Princeton.

  10. The point is, we are all nerds. If you were not one before this class, you certainly are now.

  11. I see this post was made before Daniel had the pleasure of meeting ME!!! MWAHAHAHA

ps. why dont you show us how you wipe out species??
