If you want to know when computers took over the world, it happened in May of 1997, when Kasparov fell to Deep Blue, almost 15 years ago. It happened halfway through Game 2 of the set; you can watch the whole set on YouTube, but this was the important game:

The year earlier he soundly defeated Deep Blue, a chess computer designed by IBM. He offered IBM a rematch which IBM was only too glad to accept. Watch the clip to see what happens.

IBM subsequently developed another computer called Watson to take on the strongest human players in Jeopardy, see my post about that.
