The German branch of Wikimedia is trying to develop Wikidata, a database of knowledge that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. It's being funded through a donation of 1.3 million euros, half coming from the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, an organization established by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2010. This is the kind of thing we need to help save the planet.
